3 Fewer Days First Semester, But Remaining Days Are Longer
Because of the current drop in revenue collections by the state of Georgia, the number of days students will attend school in Berrien County during Fall semester 2009 will be reduced by three. However, the time will be made up by extending the school day by fifteen minutes.
Effective this semester, Berrien High School will begin each morning at 8:13 AM as in the past. The end of the school day has been moved to 3:31 PM to accommodate the extra time added.
The three days that have been taken off the school calendar will give two longer breaks in October and November. The Fall Break originally slated for October 8-12 has now been lengthened by a day with Tuesday, October 13 being added to the break. Thanksgiving holidays which have traditionally been Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will now include the entire week of Thanksgiving. Students will now be out of school on Monday and Tuesday, November 23-24, in addition to the days already scheduled.
More cuts could occur during second semester depending on state revenue collections. An updated school calendar may be downloaded at the district website: http://www.berrien.k12.ga.us/
